UNLEASH THE DISMISSED : AN EXHIBITION CURATED BY TYPOSTERS X FORWARD FESTIVAL

Typosters and Forward Festival came together to curate an exhibition built around rejected and unpublished typographic posters. We reached out to designers and studios asking them to send work that never made it to print; the designs that got shelved, didn't fit the brief, or were passed over by clients.

Why Rejected Work?

The festival's 2024 theme was "Unleash Your Creativity," and the concept fit naturally. Designers constantly produce creative work that goes unseen. It gets rejected, sits in archives, or simply never finds the right context. But that work still has value. A poster that stayed unused for one designer could become inspiration or a starting point for someone else's experimentation.

Beyond Inspiration

The exhibition also served as a reminder that creativity and failure go hand in hand. A collection of rejected posters—beautiful, well-crafted work that just didn't make it—can be incredibly encouraging. It shows that rejection often has less to do with quality and more to do with clients being a restraining factor when it comes to creative risks.

We've all been there. We've all felt the disappointment when an idea we believed in wasn't chosen. This exhibition was an opportunity to give those ideas a second life by sharing them with the design community.
